Around the country volunteer representatives of the Lithuanian Foundation oversee Foundation activities such as fund-raising and planning special events in their communities. LF representatives are true ambassadors for the organization - educating members and donors about the Lithuanian Foundation and getting new members to join the organization. On April 20, 2007 the Lithuanian Foundation Executive Committee hosted a reception and workshop for the LF representatives who were in From left to right: Vytas Kamantas, LF Board member; Dalia Povilaitis, member of LF audit committee; Narimantas Udrys, MI; Aldona Vaitkus, AZ; Ramūnas Astrauskas, LF President & CEO; Alina Bičkienė, IL; Arvydas Tamulis, LF Board Chairman; Gražina Kamantas, MI; Laurynas Misevičius, LF Board member; Rimvydas Tamošiūnas, NY; Almis Kuolas, LF Board member and LF representative coordinator; Dalia Jakienė, PA; Algis Saulis, LF Grants committee chair; Vytas Vaitkus, past LF representatives coordinator, Audit committee member Almis welcomed the representatives as well as the staff, board and executive committee members in attendance. The representatives were reminded that this year the Lithuanian Foundation is celebrating its 45th anniversary. A lively discussion ensued on ways to appropriately commemorate the event. A recommendation was made to invite Mr. V. Kernagis, a popular singer and television show host in The workshop provided an opportunity to present a new brochure in both English and Lithuanian that summarizes information on the Lithuanian Foundation. The brochure provides an additional tool for the representatives that can be used in their communities as part of their marketing activities. Additionally, the representatives were told, that a PowerPoint presentation and a video was in the works to supplement the brochure and strengthen the overall public relations effort. A preliminary version of the PowerPoint presentation was shown to the attendees asking for comments and any additional creative ideas. A final version would be produced after the member's meeting with the correct names of any newly elected members. The short video is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2007. The agenda also included a discussion of ways to increase the Fund's capital account, including one time donations and planned giving. The current web site offers members and prospective members the opportunity to donate either on a one time basis or on a recurring monthly schedule. Recurring donations can be automatically withdrawn from a member's bank account or charged against a credit card. The representatives were encouraged to get the word out about the web site and the ability to make donations online. Specific mention was made of encouraging the younger generation to participate and become active members. While recent graduates and young working adults may not have the level of disposable income to donate larger sums all at once, by signing up for a recurring sum equivalent to 2 cups of gourmet coffee a month, they would become full members in less than a year. A number of alternative fundraising event ideas were also presented, including golf tournaments, auctions, formal balls, poetry nights and others. The representatives indicated that the demographics varied throughout the communities and that not all ideas were possible, but they would look into creative events that could be organized locally. The meeting and workshop adjourned with some final refreshments and an agreement that all would reconvene next year. |
