Lithuanian Foundation Annual Banquet

Every autumn, the Lithuanian Foundation invites members, friends and all who take part in the organizations works, to its annual banquet. This year on November 8th all guests gathered at the Lithuanian World Center in Lemont, IL. After viewing graphic artist Joana Danute Plikionyte-Bruziene‘s art exhibit titled „Vartai“ (Gates) in the Lithuanian Art Museum, guests met in the banquet hall.

The evening was led by LF board member Agne Vertelkaite. After welcoming all of the guests, LF Chairman Marius Kasniunas was invited to address the audience. Marius was very happy to announce that all members and friends gathered that evening had reason to celebrate- as this year was extremely successful for the Lithuanian Foundation. He continued, „It‘s wonderful that the 9,000 members of the Foundation feel and understand the importance of this organization, for over 52 years has supported educational, cultural, and other Lithuanian organizations by donating over $17,000,000 to them. Many of the same organizations were in attendance that evening as well.

Lithuanian Consul General in Chicago, Marijus Gudynas, also welcomed the guest. Mr. Gudynas thanked all of the evening‘s guest for their generosity and he asked that they continue to pursue the ultimate goal of maintaining and promoting Lithuanian culture, education, and Lithuanian community centers in the United States, Lithuanian, and the world over.

Cadenza String Quartet (Photo: Visata)

The musical program was performed by Cadenza String Quartet: Linda Veleckyte (violin), Nina Saito (violin), Tim Hoorelbek (viola), and Emily Mantell (cello). The quartet, led by Linda Veleckyte, performed pieces composed by W. A. Mozart, M. K. Čiurlionis, and A. Dvorak. After the concert, guest feasted on a delicious dinner provided by Grand Duke’s and ate desserts provided by Bravo Bites. The evening ended with dancing. Music was performed by Kaukas (Jūratė and Rimas Grabliauskas). Some guests even took part in a “photo session” with photographer Visata.

After a wonderful evening, members of the Lithuanian Foundation understand that it is time to again roll up our sleeves and return to work, trusting that the light of the Lithuanian Foundation’s flame will guide our path.
